SECONDARY FRAMING Secondary framing is used on roofs to span the distance between the primary rigid framed rafters that support the metal roof panels. They can also include eave struts, channels, hat sections and angles to complete a building. These secondary structural steel framing components on the roof are known as “Cee” and “Zee” shaped purlins. Cold-formed steel “Cee” and “Zee” shaped girts are used on the walls to span the distance between the primary rigid framed columns that are used to support the metal wall panels. The girts and purlins are often coated with a rust-inhibiting red oxide primer or are unpainted galvanized steel members. Often, secondary framing members are punched with holes and slots in standard or custom patterns to allow connection bolts or bracing throughout the building.
